Milano by Allessandro Pomi (1920) is a luminous Art Deco travel poster that celebrates the grandeur of northern Italy’s cultural capital. Centering the soaring spires of the Milan Cathedral (Duomo di Milano), Pomi blends reverence for Gothic architecture with the streamlined optimism of early twentieth‑century design. Created at a moment when European cities were reintroducing themselves to the world through tourism and modern transport, this poster captures Milan’s dual identity: historic stonework reaching skyward under a serene, contemporary sky.

This fine art print is faithfully reproduced by The Unique Maps Co. on your choice of acid-free archival paper or artist’s cotton canvas for gallery-worthy color and longevity. Available in multiple sizes with custom framing options, we also offer tasteful personalization—add a short dedication, travel dates, or even the coordinates of the Duomo. Each print is carefully prepared to highlight the crisp architectural details and the gentle, luminous palette of the original poster.

About the artist: Allessandro Pomi was an Italian graphic artist and poster designer active in the early twentieth century, working in the language of emerging Art Deco. His travel imagery favored clarity, balance, and architectural drama—qualities that helped define the look of European tourism advertising between the wars. Pomi’s legacy endures in designs like this, where elegance and modernity meet in a single, unforgettable silhouette.

Why this subject matters: The Duomo di Milano is one of Europe’s largest and most intricate Gothic cathedrals, its forest of marble spires and statues forming the unmistakable heart of the city. In 1920, as Milan’s rail links and grand piazzas drew ever more visitors, images of the Duomo became emblems of civic pride and cosmopolitan life. This poster channels that spirit of welcome—an invitation to step into Piazza del Duomo and look up.

Color, style, and why you’ll love it: Warm notes of beige, yellow, and orange bathe the cathedral in a sunlit glow, contrasted with soft sky blues and crisp whites that emphasize marble brilliance. Repeating pinnacles create a rhythmic, upward pull, while painterly clouds and sharp linear detailing add depth and dimension. The restrained Art Deco geometry, balanced by romantic atmosphere, makes this piece an easy fit for contemporary interiors and classic spaces alike—ideal over a sofa, in a study, or as the centerpiece of a travel-themed gallery wall.

A timeless celebration of Milan’s skyline, this print makes a thoughtful gift for travelers and Italophiles—perfect for Christmas, birthdays, housewarmings, Mother’s or Father’s Day, anniversaries, or for anyone recently returned from (or dreaming of) the rooftop terraces of the Duomo.
